Acsr Wire
ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) wire consists of central steel wire strand at the center and aluminum wire strand on the outer side. Steel wire gives the strength and aluminum wires give good conductivity. The strength given by steel core helps in increasing the distance between two towers and is particularly helpful in hilly terrain and for river crossing. Without the strength of steel core the distance between two overhead transmission line towers will reduce considerably. Combination of good strength due to steel core wire and excellent conductivity from aluminum imparts better strength to weight ratio. ACSR conductors made from ACSR wires are used to transmit the power from the power plants to cities and various consumption centers.
Cable Armour Wire & Strips
Cable armour wire, as name suggests, is used in armouring of cables made from copper and aluminum. The steel wire protects the cable strands made from copper & aluminum which are good conductors but are soft. Steel armour wire protects them from damage and also acts as an earthing wire in case of any damage to the cable. The cable armour wires are round or flat with curvature. These wires are having lower resistivity and are with medium zinc coating.
